Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was reportedly one of the 242 individuals listed on the Air India plane full list of passengers aboard the flight that crashed in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Thursday, June 12. The airline confirmed the passenger composition included 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian.
Although authorities have not released an official count of casualties, fears remain high that many may have lost their lives in the incident. A Boeing Co. 787, operated by Air India and destined for London, went down shortly after departure from Ahmedabad. The crash is shaping up to be the most serious incident involving Boeing’s most advanced widebody jet.
According to air traffic control at Ahmedabad airport, the Air India aircraft took off at 1:39 p.m. (0809 GMT) from runway 23. Shortly after takeoff, the plane issued a distress signal, declaring a “Mayday” emergency. However, communication from the aircraft ceased immediately afterward.
Flightradar24 confirmed it had received the aircraft’s final signal only seconds after liftoff.
“The aircraft involved is a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with registration VT-ANB,” it said. Officials have been working to verify each name on the Air India plane as families await updates.
Boeing has yet to release an official statement in response to the incident.

In that case, a Boeing-737 aircraft overran a “table-top” runway at Kozhikode International Airport in southern India. The plane then plunged into a nearby valley, crashing nose-first into the ground.
