A bug on AirPods Pro 2 is alerting users to replace the battery on the right, left, or case.

Reports of AirPods Pro 2 ‘replace the battery on ..’ issue

According to multiple reports, AirPod Pro users receive notifications from the Find My app on nearby devices. The alert urges them to replace the battery of the earbuds or MagSafe charging case when it is low.

The ‌AirPods Pro‌ 2 feature improved the functionality of ‌Find My‌ app with a U1 chip for Precision Finding and transmitting their battery levels at all times. Therefore, it is possible that the notifications are related to these new features of the app.

The notifications ask the user to replace the battery on right, left, or Case soon. The prompt does not make sense because it is not possible to replace AirPods batteries and the device is just out of charging. The notification marked ‘Critical’ also tells the users that their “Item battery is low.”

Affected users are confused about what the alert may be communicating to them. Many users are frustrated about the quality issue and bugs in Apple devices.

“How are people okay with the lack of quality control these days on Apple software? Every week it’s something new about a bug or glitch. And these are premium prices!!! At least in the Android world, you can move to a different brand,” they posted.

Cause of Airpods bug

The faulty prompt is similar to the AirTag alert when its CR2032 battery is almost worn out and needs to be replaced. Therefore, it seems that the system is conflating the two products.

According to a tweet, Apple used most of the AirTag’s firmware for the ‌MagSafe‌ Charging Case, resulting in identical alerts even when they are not needed.

“Yes, the OS thinks it’s an AirTag. Just software issues, don’t worry. It will be fixed probably this month when Ventura comes out,” one user suggested on Reddit.

It is not yet clear how many users are affected by this issue. Apple has not yet acknowledged the bug but users say it will possibly be fixed after a software update.
