Biden confirms Afghan release of American engineer

US President Joe Biden confirmed Monday that Afghanistan had released an American engineer held prisoner for 31 months.

“Today, we have secured the release of Mark Frerichs, and he will soon be home,” Biden said in a statement, adding that the release “required difficult decisions.”
