Bill Gates claimed his private jet is not “part of the problem” when it comes to climate change, NYPost reported.

Despite being a climate change activist, the billionaire denied his personal jet use was problematic.

Bill Gates claims his private jet is not part of the climate problem despite being an activist

The Microsoft co-founder got annoyed when discussing the topic during an interview last week with BBC journalist Amol Rajan.

“What do you say to the charge that if you are a climate change campaigner, but you also travel around the world in a private jet, you’re a hypocrite?” Rajan asked Gates.

“By the gold standard of funding Climeworks to do direct air capture that far exceeds my family’s carbon footprint, and I spend billions of dollars on climate innovation. So, you know, should I stay at home and not come to Kenya and learn about farming and malaria?” an irritated Gates responded.

“Anyway, I’m comfortable with the idea that not only am I not part of the problem by paying for the offsets, but also through the billions that my breakthrough energy group is spending, that I’m part of the solution,” Gates added in his defense.

According to the website Private Jet Charter, Gates has at least four private planes. And the 67-year-old is the world’s sixth-richest person, with an estimated wealth of $106.7 billion according to Forbes.

Climeworks is a Swiss company that formed a method of directly capturing carbon dioxide from the air. The company confirmed a 10-year agreement with Microsoft in July to provide the organization with “technology-based carbon removal.”

Gates informed Bloomberg last year that he funded Climeworks, which provides individual packages, to perform “direct air capture” on his behalf.

The elite’s use of private jets has recently come into question ahead of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

According to The Washington Post, the activist group Greenpeace confronted the conference’s billionaire participants of “ecological hypocrisy” for addressing climate change initiatives while flying around the world in carbon-spewing private jets.
