China’s foreign minister said Tuesday that Taiwan “separatists will be nailed to the pillar of shame in history”, a day after the self-ruled island inaugurated Lai Ching-te as its new president.

“Lai Ching-te’s betrayal of the nation and his ancestors is disgraceful. But no matter what they do, they will not be able to stop China from eventually achieving complete reunification,” said Wang Yi at a meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation foreign ministers.
