Gold hits fresh record above $2,200 on rate cut hopes

The price of gold soared Tuesday to a record peak, propelled by trader expectations of falling US interest rates as inflation cools.

In late afternoon London deals, gold rallied as high as $2,462.54 per ounce, topping the previous pinnacle set in May.
