GoPro Hero 9 review video compares it to Hero 8

GoPro is all set to announce its Hero 9 Black action camera on September 16 at 10 AM EDT. The company will live stream the launch event for its fans. If you want to watch the unveiling event, go to GoPro’s YouTube channel where the company has put a placeholder video. Right before the unveiling event, a GoPro Hero 9 review video has surfaced on YouTube. The video compares it to last year’s Hero 8 Black.

Check out the GoPro Hero 9 review video

The review video was spotted after the YouTube channel Angry Cat shared a GoPro Hero 9 unboxing video. The Hero 9 comes in a neat, environmentally-friendly packaging. The box contains a mount, a screw, and a charger along with the camera.

The review video shows the GoPro Hero 9‘s 5K recording at 30fps in action. It will offer 5K, 4K, 2.7K, and 1080p resolutions. Last year’s model didn’t support 5K footage, offering a max resolution of 4K at 60fps. The device features a 20MP lens compared to the 12MP lens on Hero 8. It will be able to record slow-motion footage at 240fps or 8x.

Bigger in every dimension

The color front display can be seen in all its glory. It also has a removable front cover. The Hero 9 looks bigger than its predecessor in every dimension. Last year’s GoPro Hero 8 measured 66.3 x 48.6 x 28.4 mm in dimensions and weighted 126g. Expect the upcoming action camera to be taller, thicker, wider, and heavier.

The GoPro Hero 9 battery is also larger than the Hero 8 battery. Past leaks have indicated that it is getting a 1720mAh battery, which would be 41% bigger than the Hero 8’s 1220mAh. But the increased battery size might not extend the battery life. The color front display would consume plenty of energy. The action camera is expected to support fast charging.

Other upgrades over the Hero 8 include an enhanced HyperSmooth 3.0 technology to enable smoother recording similar to a gimbal. It also features an improved TimeWarp 3.0 technology and a new webcam mode.
