During a “Prescribe Freedom” event in Panama City Beach on Tuesday, Governor Ron DeSantis announced a new legislative proposal to permanently ban COVID-19 vaccinations, masking, and vaccine passport requirements.

“When the world lost its mind, Florida was a refuge of sanity, serving strongly as freedom’s linchpin. These measures will ensure Florida remains this way and will provide landmark protections for free speech for medical practitioners,” governor stated in a press release.

According to Governor’s press release, the proposal includes a permanent ban on mandates that have been repeatedly proven ineffective, such as:

  • Permanently prohibiting COVID-19 vaccine passports in Florida;
  • Permanent ban on COVID-19 vaccine and mask requirements in all Florida schools;
  • Permanently prohibiting COVID-19 masking requirements at businesses; and
  • Permanent ban on employers from hiring or firing based on mRNA jabs.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic, DeSantis has established himself as a fierce opponent of governmental regulations and pandemic limits.

The governor of Florida requested a grand jury investigation into claims “crimes and wrongdoing” due to his mistrust of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, he established Florida’s own Public Health Integrity Committee to investigate issues relating to COVID-19 vaccines in the state. The action was criticized by health professionals.

“As a health sciences researcher and physician, I have personally witnessed accomplished scientists receive threats due to their unorthodox positions,” said State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo. “However, many of these positions have proven to be correct, as we’ve all seen over the past few years. All medical professionals should be encouraged to engage in scientific discourse without fearing for their livelihoods or their careers.”

Governor DeSantis remains committed to ensuring COVID freedoms in Florida and will fight against local governments, businesses, and corporations that seek to impose authoritarian COVID policies, the press release stated.
