The person or group behind the recent wave of GTA 6 leaks appears to have cashed out more than $250,000 connected to the $CYBERLEEK memecoin, raising speculation that the unauthorized footage campaign may be coming to an end.
Cyberleek began attracting widespread attention after GTA 6 footage surfaced online in mid-August. The leaks included gameplay showing protagonist Jason playing basketball, along with additional material featuring driving, combat, NPC interactions, parts of the game world and a lengthy look at the prologue. The leaked clips were repeatedly used to promote a cryptocurrency carrying the Cyberleek name.
Cash-out follows a week of GTA 6 leaks
According to reporting based on transaction tracking by GTAForums user Vice Cit, roughly $268,000 was withdrawn from transaction fees generated by the token. The funds were reportedly moved through several transactions before reaching multiple destinations. Dexerto reported that more than $265,000 had been cashed out, while Kotaku put the figure at close to $250,000 in withdrawals during the early hours of August 27.
Kotaku reported that Cyberleek had previously burned 270 million unsold tokens, a move that removed those coins from circulation. Rather than relying on selling those reserves, the reported payout was accumulated through transaction fees as interest and trading activity around the token increased during the leak campaign.
Memecoin drops as questions remain over Cyberleek
The token fell sharply following the reported withdrawals. Kotaku said $CYBERLEEK had reached a peak price of around $0.034 before dropping below $0.005, an approximately 86 percent decline. Its market capitalization had also fallen substantially from a reported peak of $23.39 million.
The cash-out has fueled theories that Cyberleek may now stop releasing GTA 6 material, although no confirmation has come from the group itself. VICE noted that Cyberleek had not publicly announced an end to the leaks at the time of its report.
Cyberleek had initially presented the leak campaign as a protest over concerns that Rockstar Games could move away from physical game releases. However, some followers questioned that explanation and believed the promotion of the memecoin was a central motivation behind the leaks.
The developments also come as Rockstar Games and Take-Two have pursued efforts to identify the person or people behind Cyberleek. Dexerto reported that subpoenas had been issued as part of attempts to trace the leaker, while the movement of cryptocurrency through different services and wallets could become another part of that effort.
