Hating it: Twitter users seeking ways to turn off Fleets

how to turn off Twitter fleets disable fleets

Ever since Twitter launched the fleets feature, users have been struggling to find ways to disable the stories feature. Google searches for “how to turn off Twitter fleets” are trending. Several users feel that this feature makes the app look just like Snapchat and Instagram. Some users are sharing tips to help others somehow disable Fleets. One user tweeted, “Tip of the day: If – like me – Fleets aren’t your thing, use the browser to Tweet instead of the app. I do that and can’t see any Fleets and that makes me happy”.

How to turn off Twitter fleets?

On Tuesday, Twitter announced, “That thing you didn’t Tweet but wanted to but didn’t but got so close but then were like nah. We have a place for that now—Fleets! Rolling out to everyone starting today.” Fleets are similar to Instagram stories, they disappear after a day has passed. Your followers are able to engage with fleets by reacting to them via emoji, similar to Instagram stories. Your followers also have the option of responding to your tweets by sending a direct message.

Twitter launched the feature to promote more casual conversations but users seem to be hating this feature for taking up too much space on their home screen. So the question remains, how to turn off Twitter fleets? Well, you can’t do that. Users will just need to accept the new addition to their lives and make peace with it. One user tweeted, Ok so how do I turn off Fleets because I haaaaate it. Also its taking up so much space at the top of my timeline.

God grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Make the best of it

The best advice would be to learn to use them. Here is how you can benefit from fleets instead of finding ways to disable them:

To post a fleet, you will need to go to the top of your home screen. Here, you will notice a number of round bubbles running vertically to the top of your screen. To post a fleet, click on your own profile photo on the left- hand side, this will enable you to create your own ‘Fleet’. Once you have clicked, you can write text, upload pictures, and even record a video. You can also share someone else’s fleet on your fleet story if you want, the possibilities are endless.

Apart from focusing on the amount of space fleets are taking on your home screen, you can use this feature to keep up with your friends. The global pandemic has reduced all forms of physical contact, features such as these help us stay involved in the lives of our loved ones.
