Multiple iPhone 14 Pro users reported that their device is randomly restarting while charging.

Complaints of iPhone 14 pro restarting while charging issue

The new iOS 16 and iPhone 14 have brought along a plethora of issues. In recent reports, users are complaining about intermittent restarting of iPhone 14 Pro while on charge.

“I just got the iPhone 14 Pro and ever since I noticed that it restarts while charging (magsafe/cable). I can’t find anything online and other than that it functions as normal. It does not restart at all while it’s off the charger. Is anyone else having similar issues?,” a Redditor posted.

Some users posted that their iPhone 14 Pro Max on iOS 16.0.1, was restarting after every 10 to 20 minutes while charging. Others said the problem persists even after upgrading to iOS 16.0.2 or iOS 16.1 beta.

Other users are also experiencing random restarting issues with their iPhone 14 Pro devices.

“My #iPhone14Pro camera app is taking almost 10s to open and sometimes just restarting the app,” a user tweeted.

“Has anyone else encountered this problem of the phone restarting multiple times? I first noticed it yesterday after unplugging it from charging when I saw the message, “Passcode required after restarting.” I assumed this was an automatic update. However in the last 24 hours, it has restarted at least 8 times including 3 times while trying to perform a Mac-based backup. Software is up to date,” a user posted on Reddit with the title ‘iPhone 14 Pro Max keeps randomly restarting’.

Possible workarounds

Apple Support provided some workarounds to an affected user, which supposedly did not work. They include full restore from backup with DFU, restore from backup with recovery mode, and disable optimized charging.

The user replied: “After few days of frustration I also noticed a sort of a pattern, it only happens when battery is charging between 90-95% (especially 93%) and the phone its in idle. And so far the only thing that worked for me (as of now two nights without reboots) is disabling background app refresh.

“Only suggestion I have is when charging don’t do anything. Let them fully charge, than take them off the charger before doing anything,” a user recommended.

Affected users can get their new iPhone replaced within 14 days of the purchase.
