According to a senior official, Iran has arrested a person accused of spying for Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad in the southeastern province of Kerman.

The individual, who planned to commit sabotage and jeopardise security in the province, was apprehended by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGCintelligence )’s forces, Kerman’s prosecutor general Ebrahim Hamidi told Xinhua on Tuesday.

He claimed that the “spy” was identified and apprehended in a raid after the country’s security forces used extensive technical and intelligence measures.

Hamidi noted that the individual had been operating in the province under the guise of a businessman and had made several trips to different countries, the most recent to a neighbouring country, with the goal of transferring intelligence and providing training for acts of sabotage in Iran.

According to the prosecutor, the individual used cyberspace and coded software to contact Israeli organisations as well as military and intelligence institutions before being apprehended by the IRGC.

When he was apprehended, he was on his way out of Iran.
