Despite the fact that US President Joe Biden has mistakenly referred to Kamala Harris as President at least six times, a majority of voters are uninterested in his Vice President’s potential presidential run in 2024, according to a new poll.

According to The Telegraph, Biden’s Indian-origin deputy has struggled to gain traction among Democrats across the country due to her low public approval ratings.

What’s more surprising is that the majority of these voters are from California, a Democratic stronghold and Harris’ home state.

A poll conducted by the Berkeley Institute of Government Studies and The Los Angeles Times between February 14 and 20 asked 7,512 registered voters about Harris running for President if Biden decided not to run for a second term.

It discovered that 59% of registered voters were sceptical of Harris’s candidature for the country’s highest office.

Some 18 per cent reported being “not too enthusiastic” about the idea, and a clear plurality of 41 per cent said they were “not enthusiastic at all”.

Just 16 per cent said they would be “very enthusiastic” about Harris taking on the role, while 21 per cent said they would be “somewhat enthusiastic”. Four per cent of those surveyed gave no viewpoint.

Fortunately for Harris, 56% of Democratic voters said they would support her candidature.

But an immediate setback was that approximately 40% of Democrats in her home state did not want her to run in 2024.

According to The Telegraph, a few Democrats privately expressed concern that Harris could be a liability for the party, citing her communication difficulties.

They also believe that Biden, who will be 86 by the end of his second term, is too old to run.

Biden has not publicly announced a run but speaking to NBC News at the Munich Security Conference last month, Harris said the US President “has said he intends to run for re-election and I intend to run with him as Vice President”.

According to the most recent poll, Biden’s approval rating in California is improving, with 57% saying yes and 39% saying no.
