The mayor of Hiroshima, which in 1945 was devastated by a US atomic bomb, on Friday denounced the weapons as “absolute evil” after the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to a group of survivors, known in Japan as hibakusha.
“Hibakusha are fast ageing and there are fewer and fewer people able to testify to the meaninglessness of possessing atomic bombs, and their absolute evil,” Mayor Kazumi Matsui told reporters.
