The Pentagon has released a fifth batch of government records related to UFOs, adding dozens of documents, images and videos to an expanding public archive of unexplained aerial encounters.
The latest release, published Friday, includes 41 files collected from several parts of the U.S. government, including the Pentagon, FBI, CIA, State Department and the Executive Office of the President. The records span decades, with material dating back to 1950 as well as reports from recent years.
The files are being released through the government’s Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters, or PURSUE, which was established as part of an effort to locate, review and make public government records dealing with unidentified anomalous phenomena, commonly referred to as UAPs or UFOs.
The Pentagon says the material being posted through the program involves unresolved cases. That designation does not mean officials have concluded that the objects have an extraterrestrial origin. Instead, it means investigators have not been able to reach a definitive explanation based on the information available to them.
Among the incidents drawing attention in the newest batch is an account involving a former military pilot who recalled seeing an enormous triangular object while serving in Afghanistan in 2002.
According to an FBI interview record highlighted by CBS News, the pilot described an object passing overhead near Bagram and apparently blocking out stars as it moved across the sky. The witness believed the object was triangular and unusually large. Another pilot reportedly witnessed the same event.
The release also includes material connected to a September 2021 encounter over the Gulf of Oman involving a U.S. Special Operations AC-130 gunship.
A military intelligence report associated with the incident said the crew observed numerous unidentified objects during a live-fire exercise. The objects appeared as unusual cold signatures on infrared sensors and were seen moving in different formations. The encounter remains among the incidents for which officials have not reached a final explanation.
Several videos connected to the Gulf of Oman event are included in the newly released material, giving the public another look at the type of military sensor footage that has featured heavily in previous UAP disclosures.
Other files involve more recent observations.
CBS News reported that one video originated from a military aircraft operating over a populated area in the Middle East in 2025, where an unidentified object appeared to move rapidly through the camera’s field of view. Another case involved infrared footage recorded in the western United States in 2026 showing two unidentified areas moving through the sky.
The batch also contains FBI witness-interview records, some accompanied by digital or artistic renderings intended to illustrate what witnesses said they observed.
The Pentagon’s PURSUE website prominently displays several such recreations from the latest release, including depictions of large triangular objects, unexplained lights and other unusual aerial phenomena. It also includes historical imagery alongside more recent military and government records.
The August 7 disclosure follows four earlier rounds of records released since May. According to the Pentagon, the first tranche was published May 8, followed by additional releases on May 22, June 12 and July 10.
The government has indicated that the process is far from complete.
Officials say agencies are reviewing a vast collection of records accumulated over decades, with additional material expected to be declassified and published on a rolling basis. The Pentagon has described the undertaking as a government-wide effort involving numerous federal agencies.
For now, the latest files offer more documentation of encounters that U.S. authorities have investigated but have not been able to conclusively explain. They provide new material for researchers and the public to examine, while leaving the central question surrounding many of the sightings unresolved: exactly what was being observed?
