According to local news reports, the US said it has “shared interests with Pakistan in terms of security and stability” and maintains a healthy military-to-military relationship with the Pakistan Army.

John Kirby, a spokesman for the US Department of Defense said, “We recognise that we have shared interests with Pakistan with respect to security and stability…And we do have a healthy military-to-military relationship with (the) Pakistani armed forces.”

When asked if the Pentagon is concerned about former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan blaming the US and the US military for his ouster, Kirby responded that he cannot comment on Pakistan’s internal political situation.

He went on to say that the US recognises Pakistan’s pivotal role in the region as well as the sacrifices the country has made in the fight against terrorism.

The reporter inquired whether the United States is prepared for a possible military intervention as Khan takes the crisis to the streets with large public rallies.

Kirby stated that the US sees no military role in Pakistan and reiterated that he will refrain from commenting on Pakistan’s domestic politics.

Jen Psaki, White House Press Secretary, stated on Monday that a prosperous and democratic Pakistan is critical to the US’ interests, before adding that both countries have a common interest “long, strong and abiding relationship”.

“We value our long-standing cooperation with Pakistan and have always viewed a prosperous and democratic Pakistan critical to the US interests. That remains unchanged regardless of who the leadership is,” said Psaki.
