US-led international sanctions will turn Russia into a “pariah” if President Vladimir Putin goes ahead with an invasion of Ukraine, a senior US official said Friday.
“It would become a pariah to the international community. It will become isolated from global financial markets and be deprived of the most sophisticated technological inputs,” White House deputy national security advisor for international economics Daleep Singh told reporters.
He predicted “intense capital outflows, mounting pressure on its currency, surging inflation, higher borrowing costs, economic contraction, and the erosion of its productive capacity.”
