According to local media, a woman died in Southern California after being struck by lightning during a summer storm.

The woman and her two dogs were killed while walking along a riverbed path in Pico Rivera, a city in southeastern Los Angeles County, according to a report citing the police, according to Xinhua news agency.

“There’s a one-in-a-million chance of something like this happening and it happened,” LA County Sheriff’s Sgt. Patrick Morey was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

Pico Rivera officials announced the cancellation of several outdoor activities, including a field trip and a farmers market.

Officials in some Southern California communities urged residents to stay indoors during the inclement weather.

Due to dangerous weather conditions, local authorities closed several beaches in Southern California.
