Strong earthquake hits Chile during the solar eclipse

Latest reports from Chile indicate that a massive earthquake has hit the region. The magnitude was measured at 6.1, the huge jolts were felt during a total solar eclipse. It is hoped that massive destruction is not caused. Authorities are carrying out operations to ensure that citizens are safe. The earthquake hit Chile this noon on Monday 14 December 2020 at 12:20 pm local time. The intermediate depth of the earthquake has been calculated at 149 km.

A media outlet tweeted, “Region: #Chile#Bolivia Border Region Time: 2020-12-14 15:20:47.6 UTC Magnitude: 6.1 (Mw) Epicenter: 68.47°W 21.85°S Depth: 90 km.” Chile has suffered from a string of earthquakes in the past. Chile experienced the strongest earthquake of magnitude 9.5 in 1960.
