President Donald Trump said the United States is giving “serious consideration” to renaming Lake Ontario as “Lake America,” tying the provocative suggestion to the escalating economic dispute between Washington and Canada.
Trump raised the possibility in a social media post Tuesday, saying the potential name change was being considered because the United States did not expect to conduct much business with Ontario going forward.
“The United States is giving serious consideration to changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America,” Trump wrote in the post shown in the attached image.
