Trump insists on interest rate cut after US inflation edges higher

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday insisted that the Federal Reserve should cut interest rates after the release of inflation data that showed consumer prices up slightly in May.

“Great numbers! Fed should lower one full point,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, arguing that the country “would pay much less interest on debt coming due” and overlooking that lower interest rates usually increase consumer prices.
