The Taliban have issued an order to ban Afghan women employees of the United Nations staff from working throughout Afghanistan, a UN spokesman said Tuesday, a restriction the UN had so far been exempt from.

“We were told from various conduits that this applies to the whole country,” said spokesman for the secretary-general Stephane Dujarric, after the UN mission said earlier that Afghan women UN staff had been blocked from work in an eastern province.
