The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on Thursday predicted a 60 percent chance of a greater-than-normal Atlantic hurricane season — even as the Trump administration guts its workforce and seeks to slash its budget.
The agency is forecasting a range of 13 to 19 total named storms with winds of 39 mph (63 kph) or higher. Of those, 6-10 are forecast to become hurricanes, with winds of 74 mph or higher, including 3-5 major hurricanes, meaning winds of 111 mph or higher.
