- Many HomePod 1st Gen users report 'problem completing request' error after installing the 16.3 update.
- Commands often fail or show 'on it'; repeating requests sometimes succeeds on the second try.
- Requesting songs can cause network lag spikes while HomePod queues and downloads tracks, impacting online games.
- Disabling Listen for Siri and Personal Requests helped one user but did not resolve the problem for everyone.
- Multiple reports across communities but Apple has not acknowledged the issue or provided an official fix.
Many HomePod 1st Gen users are experiencing connectivity issues with their devices showing ‘problem completing request’ error.
According to users, the recent 16.3 update might have caused the issue.
Reports of HomePod ‘problem completing request’ error
Apple offers a wide range of technology and software options in order to create an interconnected ecosystem within which everything works flawlessly together.
For example, the company’s speakers, HomePod or HomePod mini, can improve all of your favourite listening experiences. It even allows you to enjoy a private, secure smart home that can be connected directly and includes Siri.
According to users, anytime they give their HomePods an order, it displays a ‘problem completing request’ error. Others, however, are stuck with a ‘on it’ message.
“Ever since updating to 16.3, this is Siri’s response to almost every request. If I repeat the request, it will work the 2nd time. Is this happening for anyone else?” an affected user asked.
A Reddit user posted about requests lagging out of their network.
“Longtime 1st gen HomePod owner here. Starting a few days ago (after installing 16.3) if I request a song from my HomePods my network lag spikes like crazy until the device has queued and downloaded the song. This is usually an issue if I’m also playing an online game (i.e. Overwatch 2/Apex Legends),” they posted.
Another HomePod user also shared concerns about losing reliability. “Nothing has changed but the OS upgrade and reliability has dropped significantly,” they reported.
Issue not acknowledged + no workarounds
There was a similar issue recently. Last month, several users reported that the connectivity between their Apple HomePod speakers and HomeKit devices had stopped working properly for no apparent reason.
Following the upgrade, some devices began to display a ‘No response‘ error.
With the HomePods, the update appears to have taken a hit. Although turning off ‘Listen for Siri’ and ‘Personal Requests’ benefited one user, it did not solve the problem for everyone.
Despite multiple reports from various communities, Apple has yet to acknowledge the problem.
Hopefully, the team will act on these reports in order to quickly find a solution to the issue.
