Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Wednesday thanked his US counterpart Donald Trump for the return of a toddler whose Venezuelan parents were deported from the United States without her.

The separation of Maikelys Antonella Espinoza Bernal from her parents caused an outcry in the South American nation.

Receiving the little girl at the presidential palace in Caracas, Maduro thanked Trump for a “profoundly humane act.”
