According to police in the southern Spanish city of Marbella, a car rammed into a pedestrian area filled with outdoor cafés and restaurants, injuring several people, some of them seriously.

According to AP, a police spokeswoman said officers had arrested the car’s driver and were investigating the incident. The spokeswoman could not be named in media reports because she was not authorised to do so.

According to police reports, five people have been taken to the Costa del Sol Hospital, one of whom has serious injuries.

Online videos from the scene of the crash, on one of the city’s main thoroughfares, showed ambulances and police officers, as waiters cleaned up or assisted people on the ground.

The incident occurred in the mid-afternoon, when the area was bustling with customers eating lunch.
