A video of a Muslim student lashing out at his Indian professor for allegedly labeling him a “terrorist” has gone viral.

On Monday, the 45-second video was circulating on social media. It shows a young boy confronting his professor in front of a class of students.

Video of Indian professor calling Muslim student a terrorist

In the video, the student asks, “How can you pass such statements?”, followed by an argument. The teacher says it is a joke. Taking the argument further, the student replies, “26/11 is not funny, being Muslim and facing such things in this country is not funny.”

Meanwhile, some of the students in the classroom are also laughing.

The student adds: “How can you call me like that? In front of so many people? In class. You’re a professional, you’re teaching.”

The professor then apologized to the student and told him that he was equal to his son.

The student replied, “Will you treat your son like this? Will you label him as a terrorist, in front of everyone in the class? Sorry alone will not help, sir. It doesn’t change how you portray yourself here”

Thousands of people shared and reacted to the video. Professor Ashok Swain, a chairperson of UNESCO retweeted the video and wrote, “A Professor in a class room in India calling a Muslim student ‘terrorist’ – This is what it has been to be a minority in India!”

The professor was suspended: reports

Initially, the Indian media reported that the professor issued a personal apology to the student and sorted out the matter.

It was later said that the professor has been suspended by the Manipal Institute of Technology, India Today reported. The incident originally took place on November 26.

Rajdeep Sardesai, an Indian Journalist, also broke the news of the suspension: “Breaking: Manipal Univ has reportedly suspended the professor who called a Muslim student a ‘terrorist’: this is what ‘normalization’ of awful bigotry does for which public figures, civil society, and media to need to introspect.”

A lot of Twitter users supported the student and complimented his bravery for standing up against his teacher.
