New footage published Tuesday shows a 17-year-old boy jumping at Sunset Cliffs. He hits the rock face, then drops into the ocean off San Diego, California.
The video shows the teen running toward the ledge before takeoff. Seconds later, he slams his backside against the rocks.
Then the crowd reacts. Onlookers shouted a collective “ooooooh,” before a bystander jumped into the water to help.
One version of the clip carried a caption online: “Man, why didn’t anybody stop him from doing that?”
What the new footage shows
The footage came from two angles, according to the Post. One side view suggests the teen hadn’t fully committed to the jump.
His feet kept moving in a running motion even after he became airborne, the outlet reported. Sloping sand beneath his feet may also have thrown him off at takeoff.
Sunset Cliffs sits along the San Diego coast. It’s a spot well known for illegal cliff diving, the Post noted.
Still, the extent of the teen’s injuries hasn’t been made public. And he hasn’t been named.

Rescue at Sunset Cliffs
The jump happened Saturday near Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, according to NBC 7 San Diego. The station reported the teen struck the side of the cliff before hitting the water.
The emergency call came in at 4:27 p.m., NBC 7 said. San Diego firefighters and lifeguards responded soon after.
Lifeguards pulled the teen from the water and took him for medical care, the station reported.
Trump praises a separate young rescuer
President Trump also praised a young rescuer Tuesday, in a post shared by Insider Paper on X. The remarks were not tied to the Sunset Cliffs jump.
“We’re going to bring this heroic young man, and his family, into the White House with, perhaps, the boy he saved, to give him a High Civilian Honor,” Trump said, according to the post. “Very brave, he deserves it!”
The post didn’t name the rescuer. It also gave no date for any White House visit.
