US President Joe Biden’s spokeswoman said Monday Justin Trudeau had been a “stalwart friend” of the United States as the Canadian prime minister announced his resignation after more than nine years in power.
“Prime Minister Trudeau has been a stalwart friend of the United States,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters, adding that Washington would “stand with” Canada and its people as they pick a new leader.
