Forest fires raged on in Turkey’s south and southwest coastal resort towns, forcing the evacuation of several villages and tourism facilities.

According to Xinhua news agency, the fire in the Manavgat district of the Mediterranean province of Antalya reached Sirtkoy village on Sunday, prompting authorities to order the evacuation of residents.

“We have been on high alert at night for not allowing the flames to threaten the residential homes. But the strong wind diverted the blaze toward our homes. We couldn’t do anything,” a village resident told the NTV broadcaster.

The fire in Manavgat, which erupted on July 27, killed seven people and injured 507 others, according to Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.

Meanwhile, many residents and tourists in Bodrum, an Aegean resort town in the Mugla province, have been evacuated by Coast Guard boats and private yachts following a new fire that erupted in the Mazi neighbourhood.

Firefighters in Marmaris, another Mugla resort town, have been battling the blaze that is still burning in the area.

The Turunc neighbourhood was ordered to be evacuated by authorities.

According to Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli, 111 fires that erupted in Turkey over the last five days had been put out by Sunday morning.

Six fires, he said, were still raging.
