Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday said he expected Hungary’s prime minister to speak for Europe on Ukraine as holder of the EU’s rotating presidency, despite criticism of the visit by EU leaders.

“I understand that this time you have come not just as our long-standing partner but as president of the European Council,” Putin said at the start of their meeting in Moscow, adding that he expected Orban to outline “the position of European partners” on Ukraine.
