Taiwan’s military aims to have a “high level” of readiness among its forces by 2027 to deter China, the democratic island’s President Lai Ching-te said Wednesday.

US officials have previously cited 2027 as a possible timeline for a Chinese invasion of Taiwan, which Beijing claims is part of its territory and has threatened to annex by force.
