Afghanistan’s Taliban government said Friday it felt “profound sorrow” over the killing of Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader credited with masterminding the militant group’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.

“It is with profound sorrow that we have received the news of the martyrdom of Yahya Sinwar,” government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement, adding his killing would “serve to intensify and fortify the resistance” against Israeli forces.
