Martin Guzman, Argentina’s Economy Minister, has resigned from his position, which he has held since December 2019.

“With deep conviction and confidence in my vision of the path that Argentina should take,” he wrote in a letter to President Alberto Fernandez, “I will continue working and acting for a fairer, freer, and more sovereign homeland.”

“I have dedicated my adult life to building a vision and capabilities to lead a process of normalizing the function of Argentina’s economy, which for so long has been characterized by patterns that generate uncertainty and anguish for millions of our compatriots,” he was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency.

Guzman’s tenure was distinguished by the successful conclusion of debt negotiations with both external private creditors and the International Monetary Fund.

He was also known for implementing an economic plan that focused on reducing the fiscal deficit and strengthening the local debt market.
