Armenia’s security council on Tuesday warned of large-scale unrest in the country after protesters took to the streets over the government’s handling of escalating tensions in the separatist region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

“There is currently a real danger of mass turmoil in the Republic of Armenia. The NSC (National Security Council) will take effective measures to maintain constitutional order in the country,” it said in a statement.
