Barack Obama, the former President of the United States, visited 10 Downing Street today for a surprise meeting with Rishi Sunak. He smiled and waved at reporters as he walked up Downing Street just after 3 pm on Monday. Obama served as president from 2009 to 2017.

A spokesperson from 10 Downing Street said: “He was making an informal courtesy drop in as part of his trip to London as part of his work with the Obama foundation.

“It was not an official meeting. He met with the prime minister. The prime minister was very happy to meet with him and discuss his work with the Obama foundation.”

This was Obama’s first visit to Number 10 since 2016, and it was the first time he met Sunak. During his time as president, Obama worked with several UK Prime Ministers, including Gordon Brown, David Cameron, and Theresa May. He had a good relationship with Cameron, which he mentioned in his political memoirs.

However, not all UK politicians were happy with Obama. Some Conservative MPs didn’t like how he talked about Brexit. Before the Brexit vote, Obama warned that it could make it harder for the UK to make trade deals with the US.
