Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo on Thursday urged Europe to “keep our cool” in the face of Donald Trump’s controversial broadsides ahead of his return to the White House.

“One of the lessons of President Trump’s first term in office is that you shouldn’t react to everything,” De Croo, who is set to leave office in the coming months, said.

“A lot of things are launched with the sole aim of starting a discussion that ultimately doesn’t lead to much.”

Trump on Tuesday set alarm bells ringing in Europe by refusing to rule out using military force to seize Denmark’s autonomous territory Greenland.

“We have to keep our cool,” the centrist premier, who has been in office since late 2020, told Belgian lawmakers.

“We should not react to every provocation, we would do it every day.”

De Croo was more forceful when it came to billionaire Trump ally Elon Musk’s alleged interference in European politics.

“We cannot tolerate this, we must intervene,” De Croo said, calling on the European Commission to enforce regulation governing online disinformation.

Musk, the owner of X, has attacked a number of European leaders online and is set to host a talk with the leader of Germany’s far-right AFD on Thursday.

“We must trust our population, the majority of the population in our countries sees very well the difference between what is information and what is misinformation,” De Croo said.
