Americans owe Nancy Pelosi a “deep debt of gratitude,” Joe Biden said Thursday as the longtime Democratic House speaker announced she would step back from the leadership when Republicans take over the chamber in January.
In a statement, Biden said Pelosi’s response to last year’s attack on the US Capitol by a mob of Donald Trump supporters proved her to be a “fierce defender of democracy,” who would be remembered as the “most consequential” House speaker in US history.
