A driver was hospitalized after their car soared into the second story of a residence in Decatur Township on Sunday.

At 3:15 p.m. on August 6th, Junction Fire Company received a call to aid the Decatur Volunteer Fire Company for an incident involving a vehicle crash on the 800 block of Alfarata Road.

Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered a vehicle had collided with the home’s second floor, and the driver had been extracted from the car, as per a representative from the fire department.

The driver was taken to Geisinger Lewistown Hospital by Fame EMS. Junction Fire Company noted that the driver had been driving at a high speed and deviated from the road into a field. The change in terrain between the field and the house, combined with the high speed, caused the vehicle to become airborne before striking the house.

As per state police, charges are pending against 20-year-old Evan Miller of Lewistown, Pa., including aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, and criminal mischief. State police, following an investigation, concluded that the crash was a deliberate act.

Crews managed to stabilize the residence and supported the homeowners in erecting a tarp in anticipation of upcoming storms. Fire crews from Junction Fire Company remained at the scene for approximately three hours.

The residence was occupied by three individuals at the time of the impact.
