China said on Friday it supports Iran defending its interests and opposes “unilateral bullying”, ahead of talks between Tehran and Washington on the Islamic republic’s nuclear programme.

China “supports Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, national dignity, and legitimate rights and interests”, a statement by Beijing’s foreign ministry said, adding that it “opposes unilateral bullying”.

Deputy foreign ministers Miao Deyu and Kazem Gharibabadi met on Thursday in Beijing, where the Iranian diplomat briefed Miao on his country’s domestic situation.
