Chinese President Xi Jinping said he would back Kazakhstan on “safeguarding national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity”, state media reported Wednesday, as he began a visit to the Central Asian nation.

Beijing “firmly supports the reform measures President (Kassym-Jomart Tokayev) has taken to maintain national stability and development, and firmly opposes any forces that interfere in Kazakhstan’s internal affairs,” Xi said, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
