Colombian President Gustavo Petro said Tuesday an explosive device was found near the border with Ecuador, as the two countries wage a diplomatic and trade dispute.

Months of tension between the leftist Petro and his Ecuadoran counterpart Daniel Noboa, a firm ally of US President Donald Trump, rose dramatically Monday when Petro alleged that explosive devices were dropped from a plane near the countries’ shared border.

On Tuesday Petro posted on X photos of what he called a “bomb” that he said was found near the frontier after being dropped from a plane. He said there would be an investigation.

“It fell 100 meters from the home of a poor family,” Petro wrote.
