Covid mask mandates are being reintroduced, affecting schools like Atlanta-based Morris Brown College, along with Rutgers and Georgetown, and even extending to entities like Lionsgate film studio due to the ongoing surge in Covid-19 cases.

Covid mask mandates back at Morris Brown College, Rutgers University, and Georgetown University

Morris Brown College in Atlanta is bringing back its rule about wearing Covid masks because some people at the Atlanta University Center got sick. The college put up a message on Instagram saying that these rules will be followed for the next two weeks. This means students and staff have to wear masks, stay apart from each other, track who they’ve been in contact with. And do other things to stop Covid-19 from spreading around the campus.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) say that a new type of Covid variant is spreading more in Georgia. And the number of people going to the hospital because of it has gone up by about 30% all over the state.

“This is what endemic means — it doesn’t go away,” said Dr. Jayne Morgan, executive director of Health and Community Education at Piedmont Healthcare. “We know now, with this heat wave, so many people have been driven indoors, when we’re usually outdoors. We’re also traveling a lot during the summer, so we’re carrying the virus from one group to the next.”

Over 100 schools are still asking students to get the COVID-19 vaccine shot before they can go to class, says a group called ‘No College Mandates’ that keeps an eye on college rules about the virus.

A few schools like Rutgers and Georgetown still want students to wear masks inside, ABC27.com reported. Since students will go back to school soon, some are curious if this will affect how many students go to these schools.

Rutgers University has a rule that all new students must follow, which means they have to get the COVID-19 vaccine, as mentioned on the school’s website. They say everyone has to follow this rule, but they might look at special requests on a case-by-case basis.

Lionsgate Studio brings back mask mandate after employees tested positive

The Lionsgate movie studio is making people wear masks again because some employees tested positive.

In an email that Deadline got a hold of, the company said that about half of their workers in Los Angeles need to put on “medical grade” masks. They don’t have to wear masks if they are alone in an office with the door shut, eating, drinking at their desk, or if they’re the only one in a big open area.

Workers now have to check themselves every day and stay home if they feel sick or traveled out of the country in the past 10 days. The company is also starting to track who people have been in touch with and giving them tests to use at home if they need them.
