Indian police said Thursday the number of people killed when a London-bound passenger jet with 242 people on board smashed into residential buildings had risen to 260.

“The death toll in the plane crash is at present 260,” police commissioner Vidhi Chaudhary said, suggesting that at least 19 people were killed when the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner ploughed into a medical staff hostel in Ahmedabad.

Officials have said there was a lone survivor among the passengers.
