“Pretty sure I’ve never discussed crypto with Trump, although I am generally in favor of things that shift power from government to the people, which crypto can do”

Elon Musk and Donald Trump are discussing crypto policy, Bloomberg reported. Trump is emphasizing Bitcoin and other digital assets in his campaign to attract new voters, according to someone familiar with their discussions.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk crypto talks hint at a broad advisory role for Musk in potential second term in November

Trump and Musk are discussing ways for the tech entrepreneur to take on a broad advisory role if Trump wins a second term in November. The exact details of this role are still being worked out, as per sources. The Wall Street Journal first reported this.

The WSJ article mentioned that Trump and Musk have talked about a possible advisory role for the Tesla leader if Trump wins the presidency again. This suggests that the previously tense relationship between the two men has improved.

Trump’s campaign team has also considered asking Musk to speak at the Republican convention. However, they haven’t made a final decision yet. The source, who chose to remain anonymous, said they don’t know if anyone has discussed this idea with Musk yet.

Musk has also talked with Trump allies about electric vehicles and the space program, which are key areas for his companies, Tesla Inc. and SpaceX.

Trump and Musk’s communication rises as campaign seeks crypto insights

The communication between Trump and Musk has increased in recent months as the campaign seeks Musk’s insights on cryptocurrency. In March, Musk attended a donor event for Trump, but afterward, he mentioned that he had no plans to donate to either Trump or President Joe Biden.

Musk has impacted the prices of “memecoins” through his social media posts, his appearance in a Saturday Night Live segment about crypto, and a brief change in April 2023 when the home button on X was replaced with an image of a Shiba Inu, the dog breed linked to Dogecoin.

Other industry advocates, many of whom are connected to Musk, are also trying to get Trump’s attention as his campaign shapes its messaging around cryptocurrency.

“President Trump will be the only voice of what role an individual plays in his presidency,” Trump spokesman Brian Hughes said in a statement. “Many of the nation’s most important leaders in technology and innovation are concerned with the damage done to their industry by Biden’s failures.”
