EU energy ministers will hold video talks on the fallout from the Iran war early next week, as high oil prices remain a source of worry, officials said Friday.
“The topic of discussion is the security of energy supply due to the Middle East crisis,” said a spokesperson for Cyprus, which holds the EU rotating presidency, announcing the Tuesday talks.
The war — approaching the one-month mark Saturday and showing no sign of ending soon — has roiled markets and triggered a surge in energy prices.
The European Commission has repeatedly said supplies are not an issue at this stage for the 27-nation bloc, but high prices are a matter of concern.
From Spain to Croatia, several member states have sought to contain costs with tax reductions, caps on fuel prices and other measures.
