EU quizzes LinkedIn on targeted ads using personal data

The European Commission on Thursday sent a formal request for information from LinkedIn, Microsoft’s networking platform for professionals, about how users’ personal information is being used for targeting advertising.

The request — which does not presuppose formal further action — was made under the Digital Services Act, a law binding online platforms operating in the European Union to strict rules including on users’ data exploitation.
