The European Union on Tuesday said China “endangers international peace and stability” with its live-fire military exercises around Taiwan, which have included missile launches and warplane deployments.

The drill “further increases cross-strait tensions”, a spokeswoman for the EU’s foreign policy service said in a statement.

“Peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are of strategic importance for regional and global security and prosperity,” said the spokeswoman, Anitta Hipper, adding: “We reiterate our calls to exercise restraint and avoid any actions that may further escalate tensions.”
