EU unlocks 10 bn euros of funding for Hungary on eve of summit

The European Commission said it unlocked 10.2 billion euros ($11 billion) of funding for Hungary Wednesday, the eve of a summit on support for Ukraine that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has threatened to derail.

The EU’s executive arm said Hungary had undertaken enough reforms to improve the independence of the country’s judiciary and therefore gain access to the money.
