A U.S. Air Force Thunderbird pilot safely ejected after an F-16C (jet) Fighting Falcon crashed during a training mission in southern California, officials said. The pilot is in stable condition and receiving medical care.
The crash happened late Wednesday morning, with reports coming in around 10:28 a.m. near Trona Airport in Searles Valley, a remote desert area in northeastern San Bernardino County, according to the sheriff’s department.
The aircraft, assigned to the Thunderbirds demonstration team, went down shortly before the pilot ejected. Officials have not released further details about what led to the crash.
